Andrea Coppola, an Italian national, is the Lead Country Economist and Program Leader for Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions in Viet Nam, Cambodia and Lao PDR. In this position, he oversees the World Bank’s work on economic policy, trade and competitiveness, governance, financial sector and private sector development, and poverty reduction.

Since joining the World Bank in 2009, Andrea has taken several economic positions and worked on a broad range of economic issues in middle-income and low-income economies in Latin America and Africa. His most recent assignment was Program Leader for Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions in Cote d'Ivoire. In this role, he has overseen and led lending operations and analytical work focusing on growth, domestic revenue mobilization, and public expenditure management. He led the first World Bank report on Big Data and the first Policy-Based Guarantee backing commercial loans in Africa.

Prior to joining the World Bank as a Young Professional, Andrea worked as an economist at the Italian Treasury. His research on debt management and commodity price forecasting has been published in the International Journal of Finance & Economics and in the Journal of Futures Markets. Andrea holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance from University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. He is fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
