- New Doing Business Reports and Data: Three new reports have been published: Doing Business in the Arab World 2009, Doing Business in Small Island Developing States 2009, and Paying Taxes. In addition, Doing Business subnational data on Mexico is now available, along with a report in Spanish.
- How the Financial Landscape Will Change: "The financial crisis is prompting a reassessment of certain principles and practices in financial sector policymaking, and could lead to important changes in the structure and oversight of financial systems worldwide," according to a new World Bank Group paper. "The Unfolding Crisis: Implications for Financial Systems and Their Oversight" is now available for consultation and public comment.

- Remittance Prices Worldwide: The new remittances database provides data on the cost of sending and receiving small amounts of money from 14 sending countries to 67 receiving countries. The aggregate cash flows are enormous: the World Bank estimates that remittances totaled $337 billion in 2007. The research and publication of remittance pricing worldwide serves four important purposes: benchmarking improvements, allowing comparisons among countries, supporting consumers’ choices, and putting pressure on service providers to improve their services.
