Preventing and Responding to Violence Against Women

Emerging from The Lancet Series on Violence Against Women and Girls released in November 2014, this side event covers the current evidence on interventions to reduce violence against women and girls (VAWG), health responses to VAWG and a call to Action to guide our future research and activism on this issue.

Increasing Women's Access to Economic Opportunities: Towards an Integrated and Evidence-Based Policy Design

This event aims to highlight novel work done around documenting evidence to identify the enabling factors for women's economic participation and labor market outcomes. In addition, the event will focus specifically on ideas around new policy design on key areas such as work-family reconciliation via early childhood education and care; and push-pull factors for women's entrepreneurship.

From Commitment to Action: Financing Gender Equality in the Implementation of the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda

Discussions on a new financing deal to underpin implementation of the post-2015 sustainable development agenda are well-underway ahead of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa in July. This side event will provide a crucial opportunity to strategize about what it will take to catalyse ambitious and effective financing for gender equality, and how to shape an Addis Ababa outcome document that is fit to deliver on post-2015 commitments on gender equality and women’s rights.

Panel Discussion on Catalytic Partnerships for Gender Equality in Education: The Way Forward

The event will feature various partnership initiatives that create educational breakthroughs for girls and women, and explore what makes these partnerships transformative and successful. This debate will focus on partnership models that can empower girls and women with relevant education and skills, to achieve gender equality and foster social inclusion and change. It will contribute to ongoing consultations on the post-2015 education agenda, including in the context of the World Education Forum in Incheon, Republic of Korea in May 2015. Concept Note

In 2015, a number of global milestones "-the twentieth anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action (PfA), the Post-2015 Development Agenda and anticipated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) " provide a unique opportunity to ensure that the business community commits, contributes and is a key partner to achieving gender equality. The WEPs Annual Event will bring together leaders from business, Government, the UN and civil society to reflect on the implications of the PfA and the re-visioned SDGs, and project an action agenda driven by the WEPs business champions and constituency. The event will also focus on concrete steps and actions that business can take to advance gender equality in the workplace, marketplace and community. More information

To commemorate International Women’s Day and Beijing +20, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, the International Center for Research on Women, and ENERGIA will host a high-level meeting to address the critical role of energy access in driving gender equality. This panel features leaders from governments, multilateral organizations, and civil society in order to discuss how influential agencies in these different sectors can and should be the driving force in advocating for and enabling access to energy as a critical means to achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls.
