The Ghana portfolio comprises $2.188 billion in 25 projects, with a disbursed amount that has been increasing since FY09. In FY11, $386.2 million was disbursed, the sixth largest amount of the International Development Association (IDA), and reached $323 million in fiscal year 2015, a country record. Regional projects reflect Ghana’s role as a hub in West Africa, with a regional portfolio of six projects of nearly $790 million in transport, energy, higher education, trade facilitation and agriculture. In energy, Ghana is an essential player for the West Africa Power Pool which has laid out a power transmission grid that interconnects the region. An IDA guarantee also helped the completion of the West Africa Gas Pipeline which connects Nigeria’s gas resources to Benin, Togo and Ghana, lowering energy production costs in Ghana.
