Susan Ulbaek serves as the Executive Director on the Board of the World Bank Group where she represents the constituencies of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. She is a member of the Budget Committee and of the Committee on Development Effectiveness (CODE).
From 2000-2016, Ms. Ulbaek served in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, where she held various positions, including: Ambassador, Under-secretary for Africa, Asia, Americas and the Middle East; Ambassador, Under-Secretary for Multilateral Affairs; Head of Asia and Latin America Department; Head and Deputy Head of the Asia Department; and Head of Latin America Section. Prior to joining the World Bank Group in July 2016 she was Ambassador and Head of Evaluation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition to her work with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Ulbaek has also served as a Counsellor, Permanent Representation of Denmark to the EU Development policy and EU relations to Africa, in Brussels. She also served as an Economist at the WBG from 1989-1990 and served as the Head of Section, UN Organizations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1987-1988.
Since 2009 Ms. Ulbaek has been engaged in holding various Board positions as a Member of the Board of Directors Investment Fund for Development Countries; Member of the Advisory Board Asia Research Center, Copenhagen Business School; and Member of the Advisory Board for Department for Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen.
Ms. Ulbaek graduated with a Master of Economics from the University of Copenhagen.
