José Guilherme Reis is the Practice Manager for Trade in the Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice, after two years as Program Leader for Competitiveness and Growth in the World Bank office in Turkey. He joined the WB Turkey team in 2013 after four years as Lead Economist with the International Trade Department in Washington DC, where he led the program on trade and competitiveness. He joined the Bank in 2004 and his work program has been focused on the microeconomic agenda for growth and topics related to competitiveness. He led several studies on competitiveness, trade, and growth in countries in different parts of the world, including Latin America, Africa, South Asia and Europe and Central Asia.
Before joining the bank, he occupied the positions of Secretary for Economic Policy in the Ministry of Finance in Brazil, 2001-2002 and Chief of Economic Advisors with the Ministry of Planning and Budget, 1999-2001 He holds a Masters degree on Economics and Public Finance from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, where has been Professor at the Department of Economics since 1983.
