This workshop will bring together representatives of the national meteorological and hydrological services and relevant ministries from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan with regional entities and international partners active in the field of hydrometeorology. The event seeks to develop a roadmap for regional collaboration under the proposed Second Phase of the Central Asia Hydrometeorology Modernization Project (CAHMP II) and agree on the next steps for the preparation of the regional activities under the project.
The workshop will feature discussions on the challenges and prospects of advancing regional hydromet cooperation, including speakers from the World Bank, the World Meteorological Organization, and regional entities such as Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the Regional Center for Hydrology. Key areas for workshop discussion include the enhancement of hydromet infrastructure, data collection, processing, forecasting, warning dissemination, and service delivery.
CAHMP II builds upon the achievements of its predecessor, which delivered significant enhancements in regional hydromet collaboration and established the Central Asia Flood Early Warning System (CAFEWS). The next phase of the proposed project is dedicated to reinforcing regional and national hydrometeorological systems, concentrating on the provision of services and products that facilitate effective management of weather-related variability, promote green development, support climate change adaptation, and enhance disaster preparedness.
