Removing Barriers to Women Employment in Azerbaijan

Although Azerbaijan’s labor market has relatively small gender gaps, there is a stark divide between what men and women can do for employment. Women tend to work in lower-wage careers, such as in health and education, while men dominate the better remunerated fields, such as engineering or management. This contributes to a high gender pay gap in Azerbaijan: men earn 46% more than women, on average. These constraints not only impact women, but also businesses. Eliminating legal discrimination, therefore, can lead to higher levels of female participation in the labor force and translate into significant economic gains.
