More than half of Cambodians, the highest rate in East Asia, don’t have access to a latrine and have to practice open defecation. Local governments are working with NGOs and other partners to engage microfinance institutions that provide small loans to help cash-constrained households overcome the financial barrier of purchasing a latrine.
