FYR Macedonia: Systematic Country Diagnostic - Call for Papers

The World Bank Office in Skopje is preparing a Systematic Country Diagnostic for FYR Macedonia. This diagnostic will assess barriers and opportunities for inclusive and sustainable growth in the country, and identify policy priorities.

As part of this process, we are pleased to announce a Call for Papers.

How can FYR Macedonia accelerate its pace of economic growth? What can be done to ensure that economic growth benefits all citizens? What are the main challenges to ensure the sustainability of economic growth?

We are particularly interested to receive papers from young researchers on the 4 topics noted below:

  1. Private Sector Development and Competitiveness. For example: priority areas to promote exports and integration to global value chains, innovation, or firm productivity growth.
  2. Education, Skills and Health. For example, priority areas to improve the quality of education, reduce gaps in educational attainment for vulnerable groups, development of skills for 21st century jobs, or tailor health services for an aging population.
  3. Quality of Institutions. For example priority areas to combat corruption, strengthen the rule of law and promote judiciary efficiency and transparence or to improve the competition regulatory quality.
  4. Rural-Urban Development and Environment Sustainability. For example, priority areas to preserve natural resources, and reduce pollution and improve preparedness for natural hazards.

Choose 1 topic and send your paper of up to 5 standardized pages in Macedonian or English by November 10, 2017 to Anita Bozinovska at abozinovska@worldbank.org.

Papers submitted will be reviewed by a panel composed of World Bank staff working on the Systematic Country Diagnostic for FYR Macedonia.

Winners will be announced in mid December, 2017 on the World Bank Macedonia website and the World Bank Facebook page.  An award ceremony will be organized and all winners will be invited to receive an official diploma and a small gift.
