Mehwish Ashraf is the World Bank Country Economist for The Gambia in the Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment Global Practice.
A Pakistani national, Ashraf joined the World Bank Pakistan office in 2011 as a consultant. Since then, she held various positions with the Bank, including her last assignment as the country economist for Pakistan. She has led substantial analytical work on macro-fiscal issues and was instrumental in developing a substantial debt program in Pakistan at the national and sub-national levels. Her regional experience includes working in Maldives, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Nepal.
Prior to joining the Bank, she worked at the debt office of the Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan. Ashraf holds a master’s degree in business administration from Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan.
