    Solar Power Lights up Future for Mongolian Herders In most of the vast landscape of Mongolia, nomadic herders never had access to electricity. Thanks to an IDA-financed project, 100,000 herder families now generate enough power through off-grid solar systems for lights, televisions, radios, mobile phone charging and small appliances.     Reducing vulnerability of rural communities An IDA financed project enhanced livelihood security and sustainability by scaling up safety nets that reduced the vulnerability of communities throughout Mongolia. 1.7 million people and 500,000 households received microloans. Over 50% of the beneficiaries were women; 16 percent were below the poverty line and 19 percent were herders. 1,088 hospitals in rural areas have been upgraded. Read More »
