This is a review of the gender
dimensions of development of the Banks portfolio in Vietnam.
The objective of this exercise was to understand how, during
the last Country... Show More + Assistance Strategy (CAS) period
(FY03-FY06), the Bank conceptualized the challenge of
promoting gender equality; and the extent to which gender
issues were addressed through lending operations and
analytical work. Another objective was to provide specific
recommendations and input on how gender issues can be
addressed more coherently in the new CAS (now called Country
Partnership strategy) for FY07 - FY10. This exercise was
based on a literature review, two surveys, and stakeholder
consultations with Bank, Government of Vietnam staff, and
local beneficiaries, including Womens Union representatives.
This activity built on earlier gender reviews with new data
to examine whether trends or lessons could be determined in
the context of the implementation of the Banks policies of
gender mainstreaming. Show Less -
