Dr. Rodrigo A. Chaves, a national of Costa Rica, has been the Country Director of the World Bank Indonesia since August 2013.
Prior to this position, Rodrigo was the Sector Director, Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Department, Latin America and the Caribbean Region (LCSPR).
He has worked at the World Bank for 20 years. His experience includes analytical and operational work in more than 45 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, and East Asia. He has worked and written on macro and microeconomic policies -- including tax sufficiency, quality of fiscal expenditures, public service delivery at local level, financial market development, private sector, entrepreneurship, credit and investment, and rural development. Rodrigo led joint World Bank-IMF Financial Sector Assessments of emerging market economies.
Prior to joining the World Bank he managed the operations of a small private bank and worked as a consultant to the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and USAID.
He holds Ph.D. in Economics from the Ohio State University, USA.
