Henry Bagazonzya

Senior Financial Sector Specialist, South Asia

Henry K Bagazonzya, Senior Financial Sector Specialist is the Finance and Private Sector Coordinator for Sri Lanka and Maldives since 2011. He first joined the World Bank in 1994 and has worked in the capacity of Project Director, Team Leader and Consultant for international development projects in Africa, as well as Senior Microfinance Specialist (Africa Region), and as Senior Financial Sector Specialist (South Asia Region). Henry has been involved in re-designing and implementation of rural and agricultural development projects in Rwanda and Nigeria. His experience in rural finance projects focused on agricultural insurance and on innovations in the use of centralized microfinance technology platforms in Bangladesh and Nepal. This also included  projects on improving rural livelihoods in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. During this time he also acted as a task manager for the Afghanistan Microfinance Project which was financed by the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund. Henry’s experience includes working with the USAID, IFC and UNDP, SIDA and NORAD in several countries such as Uganda, Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Henry has authored several papers and contributed to publications for the World Bank as well as other sources. He has a B.Sc. (Agric.) Hons, from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda and a M.Sc. (Agricultural Economics) from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
