A five-day training on “Measuring Consumption through Household Surveys” took place at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, in collaboration with the Center for Development Data of the World Bank.  In attendance were 21 participants from national statistics offices and government ministries of Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The intensive course covered different aspects of survey design for measuring welfare and consumption and provided recommendations to improve the quality of data. Following the training, most countries have expressed the intention to use the survey design recommendations from the course to improve the quality of data in upcoming surveys.

The training was organized through the Partnership for Capacity Development in Household Surveys for Welfare Analysis, signed by 9 Italian and African Regional Statistics Training Centers, with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and the World Bank’s Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building.
