Evaluating police intervention in intimate partner violence cases: An experimental impact assessment of the Home Visits Program in Peru
Project Summary:
The police force in Peru has developed the Home Visits Program, in which women police officers visit victims of intimate partner violence in their homes after the initial crime report. In 2017, 104 police stations in Lima alone received more than 48,000 reports of intimate partner violence.
The Development Marketplace award will enable the researchers to monitor 1,600 women to study the police home visit program's impact. They will train police officers about gender roles, stereotypes, discrimination, and the causes, factors, types and manifestations of gender-based violence. They will also identify women at a higher risk of being victims of violence again, who will receive additional home visits from police.
