WASHINGTON, June 21, 2021 – Tonight, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong of Singapore. President Malpass congratulated Minister Wong on his appointment as Finance Minister, and welcomed him as Singapore’s new Governor to the World Bank Group. President Malpass noted his recent virtual participation in Singapore’s World Cities Summit and expressed his gratitude to Minister Wong for Singapore’s strong ongoing partnership with the World Bank Group.
President Malpass and Minister Wong discussed shared development priorities, including investment infrastructure, reducing inequality, broadening social safety nets, and addressing climate change. President Malpass detailed the World Bank Group’s efforts on COVID-19 and highlighted the importance of a strong IDA20 replenishment.
