Announcing the Winners of the #PressforProgress Photo Contest

February 15, 2019

New Town Hall, Colombo Municipal Council, Sri Lanka

619 photographs. 79 photographers.

That’s how many entries we’ve received since the photo competition #PressforProgress for More and Better Jobs for Sri Lankan Women was launched last September.

It’s finally time to discover who the finalists are.

Join us at the New Town Hall, Colombo Municipal Council to meet the winners and celebrate!

  • Organized by the World Bank Group Office in Sri Lanka and the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) together with partner organizations, #PressforProgress for More and Better Jobs for Sri Lankan Women was open to amateur women photographers, emerging artists, and established professionals.

We wanted women to engage with the societies they lived in and share their lived realities. The winners would receive prizes and be featured in a unique exhibition.

Selecting these winners has been an extremely difficult task, particularly because each submission had its own powerful story to tell. The entries were evaluated by an international committee composed of Michael Foley and Andrea Baldeck chaired by Dr. Idah Pswarayi-Riddihough, World Bank Country Director for Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

The photographs were judged on relevance to the theme, power of the message, originality in treating the theme, creativity, technical quality, and suitability for presentation in a workplace of an international organization and the Colombo Municipal Council.

17 photographers made the shortlist. You’ll discover who the winners are on 14th February, at the inauguration of an exciting new exhibition.

Our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who chose to take up the challenge to #PressforProgress and congratulations to our shortlisted photographers! Join us to celebrate their achievement – you can find out more here. [link to more details]
