LAC Equity Lab: Ethnicity

Based on census data from 16 countries in LAC, Indigenous Peoples (IP) represent approximately 8 percent of LAC’s population. While the region has seen significant progress in terms of poverty reduction over the past decade, the IP population have benefited little. They remain among the poorest in LAC, and, in some areas, the difference in poverty between them and other groups has grown even wider. Although Indigenous Peoples in the region have seen improvements across various education measures, this group continues to have lower results than the general population in terms of educational attainment.
