Makhtar Diop, World Bank Vice President for Africa to Visit Zambia

LUSAKA, May 16, 2017 —  The World Bank’s Vice President for the Africa Region, Mr. Makhtar Diop, will visit Zambia from May 18 to 21, 2017. This will be Mr. Diop’s first visit to Zambia.

The purpose of his visit is to engage with government and a broader group of stakeholders on the Bank’s support to Zambia’s development priorities. 

During his visit, Mr. Diop will meet with His Excellency, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, to re-affirm the World Bank’s continued support to Zambia. He will also have a working meeting with Finance Minister Felix Mutati and National Development Planning Minister Lucky Mulusa.

Mr. Diop will also pay a field visit to the Eastern Province to learn about Zambia’s experience with building climate resilient rural livelihoods that contribute to reducing Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions through sustainable land management practices.

Mr. Diop’s visit comes at a time that Zambia is implementing its Zambia Plus Economic Recovery program, and therefore provides an opportunity to reaffirm the World Bank’s commitment to support Zambia ’s efforts to reduce poverty and invest in inclusive economic growth. 

The partnership between the World Bank Group (WBG) and the Government of Zambia dates back to 1955 and the Bank continues to be one of Zambia’s key development partners.
