  • As the world and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) engage in pandemic response and recovery planning, a climate crisis is looming large over the region’s efforts. LAC can use this crisis as an opportunity to recover in a more sustainable and resilient manner, creating durable growth and jobs that can make Latin America more prosperous. The webinar convened global and regional leaders who shared best practices on transformational climate smart development in key sectors.

    Session 1 | Global Climate Issues and LAC

    Tuesday, January 19, 12 to 1 pm (Washington DC time)

    This session focused on global experiences relevant to the region.  The panel discussed how Europe is designing a green new deal to build market share across sectors and unlock new jobs and GDP; the challenges of designing similar whole-of-economy approaches in LAC; and the opportunities for LAC if it unleashes green growth.

    Session 2 | Opportunities for Climate and Recovery in LAC

    Thursday, January 21, 9 to 10 am (Washington DC time)

    This session looked at concrete actions and opportunities in key sectors for climate and recovery in LAC including electricity, transport and agriculture. Leaders shared how they have worked toward transformations, the obstacles they encountered and how they have dealt with them.
