The Strategic Impact Evaluation Fund (SIEF), in collaboration with the Guatemala CMU and the Ministry of Education, organized a workshop in Guatemala to build capacity on basic impact evaluation methods among the education, health, and social development ministries, Secretary of Food and Nutrition Security of the Presidency of Guatemala and local NGOs.
The workshop opened with a high level conversation between the Bank, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education on the importance of evaluation for public policy. The workshop aimed at teaching participants to appreciate the usefulness of impact evaluations for policy, identify a good evaluation design, and propose an evaluation design useful for their current work. In addition to lectures, these ideas were illustrated through case studies, small group exercises, and demonstrations. The workshop concluded with participants’ presentations of impact evaluation designs for projects that they were working on.
