Mombert Hoppe is the Senior Trade Economist with the World Bank office in Vientiane, Lao PDR, primarily focusing on the Trade and Competitiveness portfolio in Lao PDR and also contributing to work in neighboring countries.
Prior to joining the Vientiane office, he was based in Washington DC and worked on trade policy analysis, competitiveness, and policy dialogue in a large number of African and Asian economies. Mr. Hoppe also worked in Geneva where he coordinated the World Bank’s collaboration on trade-related activities with other international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the Enhanced Integrated Framework, and the International Trade Center. In addition, he brings in experience of working in the public sector of a developing country after having worked for two years as Trade Economist (as Overseas Development Institute fellow) in the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Ghana.
He holds an advanced degree in European Economics from the Institute of European Studies in Brussels, and a Master’s degree in International Economics from Maastricht University.
