Mohammad Shafiul Alam

Mohammad Shafiul Alam, a Bangladesh national, is the World Bank Group Alternate Executive Director representing Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka since since November 2019.

Prior to joining the WBG, Mr. Alam held various positions in the Government of Bangladesh, including, Cabinet Secretary; Secretary at President’s Office, Chairman of Land Appeal Board, and Senior Secretary at the Ministry of Land. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Magura and Mymensingh Districts, Chairman of National Housing Authority and Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation, and Commissioner of Rajshahi Division.

Mr. Alam holds a Master of Social Sciences, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK (1994);  a Bachelor of Law, Bangabandhu Law Temple , Chittagong University, Bangladesh (1990); and a  Master of Arts in English,Chittagong University, Chittagong, Bangladesh (1981).
