Alternate Executive Director: EDS10

Guenther Schoenleitner, an Austrian national, is the Alternate Executive Director at the Board of the World Bank Group representing the constituency of Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Turkey since November 1, 2020.  Prior to this position, he served as Executive Director for the same constituency from 2018 to 2020, and served as Alternate Executive Director from 2016 to 2018.

Mr. Schoenleitner served in the Austrian government in several capacities: Director, International Financial Institutions, Federal Ministry of Finance, Vienna (2009 – 2016); Head, Private Sector and Development, Austrian Development Agency, Vienna (2004 – 2007). Prior to this, he was Country Program Manager, Austrian Service for Development Co-operation, Vienna (2008 – 2009);  Project Manager, Austrian Service for Development Co-operation, Barreiras, Brazil (1991 – 1995). 

He worked at the WBG as Senior Investment Policy Officer, World Bank Group – Investment Climate Advisory Services (FIAS) (2008 – 2009). He also served as a Legal Advisor at  law firms Dr. Seethaler and Dr. Albrecht, Salzburg, Austria (1986 – 1991).

Mr. Schoenleitner earned a PhD in Law, University of Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria in 1985; a MSc in Development Studies, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1997 and PhD in Development Studies, LSE, London in 2004.
