Overview

IEG Conference on Effectiveness of Assistance for Natural DisastersThe Independent Evaluation Group (IEG), formerly the Operations Evaluation Department, of the World Bank, hosted a Conference on the Effectiveness of Assistance for Natural Disasters on Friday, April 21, 2006.

The objective of the conference, which preceded the Annual Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, was to provide a forum in which government officials, delegation members, civil society and World Bank staff could share views on how to improve the effectiveness of donor support for natural disasters response and prevention in light of the findings from recent OED evaluations.

The conference featured two sessions: the first session highlighted the Main Findings from OED Evaluations on the effectiveness of assistance for natural disasters; the second session, The Perspective from Country Directors, provided an opportunity to identify achievements and challenges as well as draw preliminary lessons from several recent disasters responses.
