About the
Newsletter
The
Transition Newsletter was founded in 1990 by Alan Gelb and Matyas Vince.
The Newsletter’s Managing Editors have been, in chronological order: Alan Gelb,
David Dollar, and Boris Pleskovic. Richard Hirschler served the publication’s
Editor in Chief for 13 years.
In
December 2004 the Newsletter changed its title to
Beyond Transition to reflect increasingly different circumstances in which
the transition countries find themselves and the broadening of the
Newsletter’s geographic scope. With accumulation of experience, improved data
and more rigorous thinking on transition the Newsletter now seeks to involve
newly emerging policy research centers in transition countries in the production
of the Newsletter.
The
current circulation of the Newsletter is about 15,000. It is read by government
officials, scholars, businesspeople, and NGO leaders in partner countries, as
well as the World Bank’s staff in Washington, DC headquarters and field
offices. The Newsletter has become an important educational tool, widely used at
universities and training courses, including many World Bank educational
programs.
Erik
Berglof is Managing Editor; Alan Gelb, Pradeep Mitra, and Boris Pleskovic are
Editorial Board members; Olga Mosina is the Editor in Chief; Andrew Austin (CERGE-EI)
is a coordinating editor; Julia Babich
is the Production and Distribution Manager.
The
Russian version is produced and disseminated in collaboration with the Centre
for Economic and Financial Research (CEFIR) in Moscow, Russia.
