World Bank e-Library in Open Access at the National Academic Library of Kazakhstan

Astana, March 27, 2014 – With the support from the World Bank Country Office in Kazakhstan, the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan opens free access to nearly 9,000 World Bank publications since the 1990s to all library visitors.

For the first time in Kazakhstan, the e-Library offers full-text access to the complete backlist of all books, working papers, and articles of the World Bank Research Observer and World Bank Economic Review. The World Bank e-Library covers more than 20 disciplines related to poverty, development, and social science including economic and human development, agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, climate change, natural resources, and regional integration.

The e-Library offers a variety of tools and added functionality, saving users valuable time. Special tools and conveniences include personalization and exporting to citation software. 

One can browse content by subject, region, country, and type of publication.

The National Academic Library located at 11, Dostyk ave, Astana, Kazakhstan, provides access to the World Bank e-Libaray in the following facilities:

  • Information Development Center (maintained jointly by WB, ADB, UN) -- room 413, 4th floor
  • Science Hall -- room 317, 3rd floor
  • Science and Technology Information Center – 3rd floor


Kazakhstan joined the World Bank Group in July 1992. Since then, the World Bank has become a major development partner with commitments of US$ 6.8 billion for 40 projects.
