Mid-year Consultative Group Meeting for Vietnam

Dong Ha City, Quang Tri province, June 4 – 5, 2012

The Consultative Group (CG) for Vietnam will hold its mid-year meeting on June 4 – 5, 2012 in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri province.  The meeting will focus on the following topics:

i. Macroeconomic Update for Vietnam: macro-economic and growth performance
ii. Achieving Breakthroughs in Poverty Reduction: Current challenges in poverty reduction in Vietnam, and poverty context and major challenges in application of poverty reduction policies in the Central Coastal provinces.
iii. Managing vulnerability to Natural Disaster: Current situation and major issues in national and province policy applications for Natural Disaster Risk Management in the Central Coast provinces.

Ahead of the CG meeting, a separate Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) - a structured and on-going dialogue between the Vietnamese Government and the business community – will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Hanoi, by the VBF Consortium, which consists of 14 foreign and local business chambers and associations, in partnership with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, International Finance Corporation and the World Bank. The mid-year Vietnam Business Forum will be dedicated to the following:

i. Investment Climate Perception presented by Local & Foreign Associations
ii. Discussions about Banking and Capital Markets, Infrastructure (including Port report), Investment & Trade (also including Tax and Land reports) and Education & Training

The World Bank will NOT provide funds for any travel, accommodation and subsistence apart from the field trips.

Field Trip Information
CG field trips: Two proposed project visit routes are being considered for the morning of June 4th, 2012 from 7:30 - 11:00 am for all participants.

1. Southern Route:
 + Natural Disaster Risk Management Project - WB
 + Nam Thanh Han Irrigation Improvement Project - ADB

2. Western Route:
 + Mine Action Visitor Centre - INGO, Quang Tri PC
 + Ho Xa - Vinh Tu - Vinh Thai Road - JICA
 + Poverty Reduction Pilot Model - France

The field trip routes and departure times are subject to change depending on the weather conditions in Quang Tri Province in June. Field trip program and project briefing materials will be circulated later.
