PRESS RELEASE

Lahmeyer GmbH Released from Debarment; First Such Determination by World Bank's Integrity Compliance Officer

August 15, 2011

WASHINGTON, August 15, 2011 — The World Bank Group has released Lahmeyer International GmbH from debarment following the determination by the Integrity Compliance Officer that the company has satisfactorily adopted and implemented to date its Compliance Management System.  This is the first such determination by the recently established integrity compliance function put in place as part of the reform of the Bank Group's sanction system that came into effect in September 2010.  The emphasis on corporate compliance programs aims at helping companies foster and maintain higher integrity standards.

"Corporate rehabilitation and the adoption of meaningful policies and measures can effectively help prevent, detect and generally reduce the incidence of sanctionable misconduct by the World Bank and other development institutions," said Leonard McCarthy, World Bank Vice President for Integrity.  "Going forward the establishment - or improvement - and implementation of an integrity compliance program satisfactory to the Bank Group will be a principal condition to ending a conditional debarment."
