RA Onboarding Course

  • This course is designed to familiarize Research Assistants and Research Analysts with DIME’s standards for data work. By the end of the courses’ six sessions, participants will have the tools and knowledge to implement best practices for transparent and reproducible research. The course will focus on how to set up a collaborative workflow for code, data sets and research outputs. Most content is platform and software agnostic, but participants are expected to be familiar with statistical software.

    Registration is required to participate, and must be done for each session independently.

  • The course will consist of 6 sessions combining theory and practice. The sessions will happen on Thursdays, at 10:00 AM:

    Jan 30Basic principles of coding: how to approach research data work
    Feb 6Data management: key components for collaborative and reproducible data work (folder management, master scripts, version control)
    Feb 13Data cleaning: ethical handling of raw data and preparation of self-documented, publishable primary data
    Feb 20Data construction: how to process and document data transparently. Common mistakes in data processing
    Feb 27Data analysis: preparing easy to follow, replicable analysis outputs
    Mar 5Git contributor: using Git and GitHub to collaborate on code
