Monitoring and Impact Evaluation Training Workshop - Second Development Marketplace Convening Workshop
April 23-25, 2014Delhi, India

SIEF and the World Bank's Development Marketplaceconducted a three-day monitoring and evaluation and impact evaluation workshop. This event was organized and delivered in partnership with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL South Asia office, with support from the World Bank’s CLEAR initiative) and IDinsight. This was the first workshop organized in collaboration with Development Marketplace.

The workshop was attended by 62 people representing 21 India based project teams affiliated and/or supported by the Development Marketplace and two DFID representatives. The project teams came from NGOs that received grants for programs to improve health, education and other development needs. Participants included directors, business heads and program staff.

The purpose of the workshop was to build knowledge on the use of monitoring and evaluation and impact evaluation so that program teams could apply this knowledge to the design and implementation of their programs. The workshop focused on human and sustainable development programs, combining intensive training in monitoring and evaluation and impact evaluation methods with hands-on “clinics” to further develop program-specific evaluations. During the workshop, project teams worked in small groups supported by 22 moderators and presenters (10 from the World Bank, 12 from the partner organizations). The sector breakdown of the project teams was as follows:

  • Education: 5 teams
  • Health: 3 teams
  • Agriculture: 4 teams
  • Livelihoods: 4 teams
  • Microfinance, micro insurance and financial services: 4 teams
  • Other sectors: 1 team
