IN DEPTH
Aid Effectiveness
The World Bank Group is in the process of holding a Systematic Country Diagnostic Consultation and preparing a Country Partnership Framework to guide its engagement in Myanmar over the next four years.
Sustainable Development
Participants provided valuable feedback and confirmed the need for improving the capacity to better manage the Ayeyarwady River.
Economic growth in 2012/13 was strong at 6.5%. It was driven mainly by strong performance in gas production, services, construction, foreign direct investment, and commodity exports.
Myanmar has the potential to more than double its rice exports by diversifying and increasing rice production, opening its rice milling sector to direct foreign investments, and reducing export procedure costs.
Education
An estimated 8.2 million students from poor, rural areas will benefit from better-financed schools. More than 100,000 poor students will also receive financial support to attend classes.
