IN DEPTH
Aid Effectiveness
The World Bank Group held a Systematic Country Diagnostic Consultation to prepare for the Country Partnership Framework that will guide its engagement in Myanmar until 2017.
Energy
Over 70% of the people in Myanmar have no access to electricity. The World Bank is working with the government and partners to help bring electricity to more people nationwide.
The World Bank approved $100 million in credit for Ayeyarwady River Basin management. Millions of poor people, whose livelihoods are water-dependent, are expected to benefit.
Agriculture & Rural Development
In Myanmar, people spend more than 60% of their income on food. A majority of those in rural areas live close to the poverty line and are at high risk of falling into poverty whenever rice prices fluctuate.
Education
An estimated 8.2 million students from poor, rural areas will benefit from better-financed schools. More than 100,000 poor students will also receive financial support to attend classes.
