Thomas Laursen is the World Bank's Lead Economist for Egypt, based in Washington D.C. Mr. Laursen, a Danish national, has worked for over 20 years in the IMF and the World Bank. Before his current position, Mr. Laursen was in the Europe and Central Asia region of the Bank, where he spent 8 years working on Central-Eastern Europe, first as Lead Economist for the New EU Member States and subsequently as Country Manager for Poland and the Baltic States during 2008-11. He has also worked extensively in Latin America during his time with the IMF. Mr. Laursen holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Aarhus (Denmark) and spent his first professional years working for the Danish Central Bank.
