Russian delegation’s participation in the 2021 WBG/IMF Annual Meetings

The delegation headed by the Deputy Prime Minister and World Bank/MIGA Governor for the Russian Federation HE Mr. Alexey Overchuk visited Washington DC to participate  in the 2021 Annual Meetings for the WBG/IMF Board of Governors.

On October 14, Mr. Overchuk met with  the WBG President David Malpass. They “discussed critical global issues including the implementation of the G20 Common Framework”, - the WBG President’s readout from the meeting says.

The Russian delegation also held meetings with WBG Managing Director Mr. Axel van Trotsenburg, Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Ms. Anna Bjerde, Vice President for South Asia Mr. Hartwig Schafer, and Executive Vice President for MIGA Mr. Hiroshi Matano.

The discussions focused on implementation of the initiatives agreed during the WBG President’s visit to Moscow in June 2021. In particular, the two sides talked about the creation of regional knowledge exchange platform, prospects for Russia's participation in IDA replenishment process and GovTech Initiative, approaches to creating a new global comparative study of business regulations, implementation of the G20 debt initiatives, as well as possible approaches to providing assistance to such countries as Afghanistan and Syria.
