This analytical work aims to answer three questions related to plastic pollution in the ASEAN region. Firstly, it will evaluate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of existing single-use plastic ban policies and provide lessons learned for countries introducing similar bans. Secondly, it will assess the current volume of plastic raw material production and import in ASEAN countries and recommend monitoring strategies. Finally, it will identify effective policy and investment approaches for reducing plastic pollution in the region, including institutional and infrastructural frameworks. The findings will inform the development of guidelines and capacity building activities supported by the SEA-MaP Regional Project, implemented by the ASEAN Secretariat.
