PRESS RELEASE

World Bank financing to the Cameroon Lom Pangar hydropower project continues as foreseen

March 18, 2014

Recent reports from various media outlets (local and internet) have indicated that World Bank funding for the Cameroon Lom Pangar hydroelectricity project has been suspended. The World Bank confirms, however, that it continues to finance the project and that there is no suspension of financing. As of today, implementation of the project is satisfactory, and required attention is brought to respect the environmental and social standards of the project. Since effectiveness for the $132 million World Bank financing for the project was reached 12 months ago, about US$53 million, or 40% of the funds have been disbursed through the Cameroonian asset holder, Electricity Development Corporation (EDC).
