World Bank Vice Presidents meeting with Parliamentarians in Tokyo

In Tokyo on March 26, 2013, Isabel Guerrero, Vice President for South Asia visited Tokyo for the annual policy consultation with the Japanese Government. The World Bank Office organized a meeting with PNOWB Japan (the 3rd this year). Mrs Guerrero briefed the participating MPs on the latest challenges and opportunities in the South Asia region and active discussion followed. The discussion included World Bank’s strategy for gender; human rights issues; and the regional political and economic situation, as well as Japanese private sector participation and recruitment. Mr. Koumura, President of PNOWB Japan participated in the meeting.

In Tokyo on March 11-13, 2013, Cyril Muller, Vice President for External Affairs, visited Tokyo and attended the Memorial Ceremony for the 2nd Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake in the National Theater. In addition to courtesy visits to Ms. Obuchi, Senior Vice Minister of Finance and Mr. Matsuyama, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, he met with a number of key parliamentarians including Mr. Koumura, President of PNOWB, Japan, Mr. Azumi, former Finance Minister, Mr. Gemba, former Foreign Minister and Mr. Koizumi. Cyril Muller reconfirmed the World Bank’s partnership with Japan and the cooperation on the Bank's development goals to end poverty and achieve shared prosperity in the world.
