A New Year for Y2Y: Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship

September 5, 2012

It’s the start of a new year of events and activities for the Youth to Youth (Y2Y)! We’re excited to bring a new team onto the Steering Committee and build on the work of previous years to “Engage, Inspire, and Empower” youth in development with new ideas! Whether you’re young, or just young at heart, we hope you’ll be a part of our community. As Pablo Picasso says, “Youth has no age!”

This year we’ve decided to frame our efforts around the themes voted on in our online poll: youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, both for the young employees at the Bank and for youth in the broader development community. You can expect several Y2Y events throughout the year that will highlight stories in which young people are empowered to achieve their goals and are taking initiative to empower others.

We also plan to continue and grow our flagship programs, such as the Y2Y mentorship program that connected over 60 young staff with senior and experienced staff at the Bank, and the Youth Innovation Fund, which provided funding for several young people around the WBG to design and implement development projects across different sectors and countries. We’re working to expand both of these popular programs to include and reach even more people than in the past years and young staff in the WBG’s country offices too!

We’re looking forward to a great year with Y2Y and hope that you’ll be a part of it too – we’re always open for new ideas and welcome anyone interested in participating in or helping out with our events. Explore the site or contact us at youth2youth@worldbank.org and see how you can get involved!
