Mr Augusto Lopez Claros, Senior Advisor in the Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) of the World Bank Group shares findings and insights on two reports: Doing Business 2017 Report - Equal Opportunity for All and Promoting Prosperity by Improving Women's Rights - Doing Well by Doing Good.
Doing Business 2017 is the 14th in a series of annual reports investigating the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. Doing Business presents quantitative indicators on business regulation and the protection of property rights that can be compared across 190 economies – from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe – and over time. Doing Business measures aspects of regulation affecting 11 areas of the life of a business.
Men and women throughout the world want to provide for their families and ensure their children have a good start in life. Often, the chance to start a business or get a job is the surest way to accomplish this goal. But how to be sure that women have the same opportunities as men to fulfill their economic potential? The World Bank's Women, Business and the Law project presents a unique dataset examining how the law can help – or impede – women from working and earning an income and what can be done to improve women's economic participation.
