Conference: Opportunities and Challenges of the Estonian Health System to Address Chronic Diseases

This conference will be an opportunity to discuss the current situation and how to further develop Estonian health care system. Two comprehensive studies on chronic disease management in Estonia will be presented.

The conference “Opportunities and challenges of the Estonian health system to address chronic diseases” will take place on 25 March, 2015 at the University of Tallinn, Estonia. The event is organized by The Estonian Health Insurance Fund and The Ministry of Social Affairs of Estonia.

The conference will present two comprehensive studies about chronic disease management in the Estonian health system conducted in collaboration with The World Bank and The World Health Organization (WHO). Both studies address the current situation and how to further develop Estonian health care system.

World Bank expert Dr. Christoph Kurowski (Interim Global Lead Health Financing) will present the report entitled The State of Health Care Integration in Estonia, which has studied today's practices in chronic disease management at different levels of the Estonian health system. For the first time, a thorough analysis of the Estonian Health Insurance Fund's actual health data by internationally recognized indicators has been conducted.

Dr. Tamás Evetovits, Senior Heath Financing Specialist, Regional Office for Europe, WHO, and the WHO consultants Dr. Taavi Lai and Dr. Anne Staehr Johansen will present the study "Better Non-Communicable Disease Outcomes: Challenges and Opportunities for Health Systems”.
