Ms. Ortega is a Spanish national specialized in private sector development, in particular the areas of trade and foreign direct investment with over 15 years of experience in legal and diplomatic affairs.

Ms. Ortega has worked for the Spanish Trade Promotion Institute (ICEX) supporting the expansion of SMEs in Germany and the USA. Later she became executive secretary for the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), which counts over 200 members in 178 economies. In 2004, she joined the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) of the World Bank Group, and later became investment officer in Sub-Saharan Africa for the Investment Climate Dept. of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). In this capacity Ms. Ortega has worked with over twenty governments in practically all continents to provide advisory technical assistance to improve their country’s business climate, including investment policy reform, trade facilitation, fiscal policy and sector and national competitiveness. In 2011 Ms. Ortega took an extended leave from the World Bank to join the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva (UNCTAD) (Switzerland). She returned to the World Bank in 2013 as Trade and Competitiveness Manager for Nepal.

Ms. Ortega has authored publications on institutional framework and policies for investment promotion. She is a graduate in Law from the University of Salamanca (Spain) and has a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva (Switzerland).
