CGAP is undertaking an initiative to understand the current volume and nature of financial services available to nano and micro-enterprises run and owned by women in emerging markets. The overall CGAP project is focused on three countries – India; Kenya; and Uganda. The initial phase of the project focuses on a literature and desk review of segmentation dimensions; with the second phase focused on the validation of the segmentation criteria within the three focus countries. The third phase of the project; and the focus of this specific assignment; is an exercise to size the market of nano and micro-women entrepreneurs in Kenya and Uganda and; where possible to provide a breakdown by segment. The firm(s) conducting this exercise will also be responsible for providing recommendations on the type of interventions that various stakeholders in the nano and micro enterprise universe need to take to support women owned businesses and help them grow. This includes but is not limited to financial and non-financial services. The scope of this EOI is limited to Kenya and Uganda. The main objectives of this research are to:*Size the nano and micro-enterprises with particular focus on women owned and run enterprises that have 0-9 employees*Identify available financial and non-financial services available for these enterprises and advise on gaps that need to be filled. The expected outputs from this exercise include; but are not limited to:1. A comprehensive report of market sizing of the nano and micro-entrepreneurs; with a particular focus on women-owned and run enterprises in Kenya and Uganda.2. Based on the final segmentation for Kenya and Uganda; size the various segments where possible. 3. Develop actionable supply-side recommendations and strategies (i.e.; financial; and non-financial) to address the identified opportunities and challenges to promote nano and micro-enterprise growth and resilience; particularly for women owned and run entrepreneurs in Kenya and Uganda.During the first phase of the project (literature review) it has become clear that there is limited or no data on nano and micro; and particularly women-owned enterprises. Hence market sizing will require deep on-the-ground and contextual country knowledge. Keeping this in mind; we are inviting bids from firms that either have a physical presence in both countries through country offices; or can secure partnerships that provide this coverage. Any proposed partnerships should clearly be outlined in the EOI.
