In many emerging markets; despite the availability of various types of electronic payment services; their adoption by consumers and merchants is not optimal. Several factors are at play; including the quality of the digital financial services ecosystem; costs to merchants and businesses; consumer behavior and attitudes; the legal and regulatory environment. The World Bank; in collaboration with the National Bank of North Macedonia; aims to conduct an assessment of the electronic payments acceptance (EPA) landscape in North Macedonia. The assessment will include an in-depth analysis of the current state of the electronic payments ecosystem and provide recommendations on implementing actions that improve acceptance and usage of electronic payments in the country. For this purpose; the World Bank seeks to collect reliable data on the EPA ecosystem; on the merchant side; consumer side and provider side.
