Grant objective

The objective of the grant was to support the Government of Kazakhstan in promoting low-carbon and resilient development of its regions and cities, and to introduce and mainstream green and resilient infrastructure under the Regional and Agglomerations Development ASA. 

  • Component 1 of the grant aimed to establish a diagnostic for green and resilient regional development. 
  • Component 2 provided support to the design of green and resilient infrastructure under a potential new lending operation.  

Implementation progress

The grant closed at the end of May 2025, having delivered a diagnostic of key climate challenges to address climate adaptation and mitigation in selected regions. The grant supported dialogue with the government on supporting the urban agenda in the country, which also fed into the development of a new lending operation (National Project on Energy and Utilities Sector Modernization).
