The grant strengthens the climate resilience of infrastructure development and rehabilitation works to be carried out under the Armenia Tourism and Regional Infrastructure Project (TRIP).

TRIP promotes sustainable tourism development and local economic growth in seven priority tourism clusters across Armenia by improving access to climate-resilient infrastructure, enhancing visitor experiences, and increasing the attractiveness of key destinations. TRIP combines strategic planning, infrastructure upgrades, cultural heritage preservation, destination management, and tourism promotion to strengthen regional competitiveness and encourage private sector investment. It also supports skills development, job creation, and institutional capacity building to ensure that tourism growth generates long-term economic opportunities for local communities while increasing resilience to climate and disaster risks.

This ECA C&CC grant consists of three components. Component 1 supports the identification and prioritization of green and climate-smart investments in selected tourism-affiliated TRIP project regions. Component 2 supports the development of Climate-smart Action Plans (C-SAPs). Component 3 focuses on capacity building for climate-smart regional and urban development.

Implementation Highlights

The development of C-SAPs for the first three regions was completed. Related activities included the delivery of status quo analyses as well as diagnostics for potential climate actions for the three municipalities. Climate hazards, risks, and barriers were identified. Capacity-building workshops validated and disseminated the findings of the status quo analysis, diagnostics, and C-SAPs and helped to initiate a broader dialogue on integrating climate-friendly investments into regional planning and explored opportunities to scale up C-SAP results beyond TRIP.
