COUNTRY WORK

Across the globe, the World Bank supports governments to strengthen public administration—the backbone of effective governance and service delivery. From ministries to frontline agencies, public administrations shape policy, manage resources, and deliver essential services that underpin development and public trust. The Bank's work in this area is comprehensive, spanning analytical support, technical assistance, and financing to help countries modernize their public sector institutions, improve policymaking and coordination, enhance workforce management, and leverage digital technologies for more transparent, efficient, and inclusive governance.

World Bank support for public administration reform is tailored to the country's needs and priorities. It includes helping governments design and implement reforms to improve organizational structures, streamline public sector employment and compensation, strengthen leadership and accountability, and foster a culture of innovation. Increasingly, the Bank also supports the adoption of GovTech solutions—digital tools and systems that enable better policymaking, service delivery, and citizen engagement.

This work is global in scope, with active engagements in every region. In the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, East Asia and the Pacific, and Europe and Central Asia, the Bank is helping countries build more capable, responsive, and resilient public administrations that can meet today's challenges and deliver for all citizens.
