The regulator is the governing body responsible for overseeing the electricity sector, as defined by national laws and regulations. Its role includes both tariff regulation (approving electricity prices) and non-tariff regulation (licensing, infrastructure approvals, market rules, grid codes, and compliance monitoring). Regulators also conduct inspections, develop secondary legislation, and handle customer complaints to ensure a fair and efficient electricity market.
