Other Programs

In addition to the Technical Assistance Program, PHRD includes non-technical assistance programs, which support the following areas:

  • Japan - World Bank Partnership Program disseminates findings of grant-financed analytical studies, seminars, and conferences on emerging development challenges and solutions.
  • Japan Staff Grant Program provides opportunities for Japanese nationals to work at the World Bank for a maximum of three years, to increase their knowledge of World Bank operations, advisory services, and analytical work, while leveraging their expertise and facilitating knowledge exchange.
  • Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program funds specialized training for scholars in key areas of development, such as economic policy management and infrastructure management.

The PHRD program management and administration team in the World Bank’s Development Finance Vice Presidency (DFi) is responsible for the management of three of the four programs (Technical Assistance Universal Health Coverage Program, which is managed jointly with the UHC Secretariat in the Health global unit, the Japan-World Bank Partnership Program, and the Japan Staff Grant Program), as well as for overall fund management and administration, including transfers from PHRD to other trust funded programs. The Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is managed by the World Bank's Development Economic Vice Presidency (DEC).
